• The English release!

    by  • April 5, 2012 • News • 9 Comments

We are proud to announce a new version of our main creation Zelda Mystery of Solarus DX. This is version 1.5.0, and the quest is now available in English!

    Download now on Zelda Solarus

Big thanks to the OpenPandora community who initiated the translation work, and to Jeff, Rypervenche and AleX_XelA who completed it. The translation was a lot of work, with a text file of 6500 lines of dialogs to translate!

We hope that you will enjoy the game. This is the first English-speaking release of the game. Don’t hesitate to tell us if you find a typo or a strange dialog: I will publish updates. Translators did a great work, but nothing is perfect! The best way to report errors in dialogs or make some remarks or suggestions is to file an issue on our github.

Zelda Mystery of Solarus DX 1.5.0 changes:

    • New language available: English
    • Fix two minor issues in dungeon 5
    Solarus 0.9.2 changes:
    • Fix two bugs with teletransporters

Full changelogs (including previous versionss) of both projects are in the git repository. As of now, future updates will be mentioned on this page.

The website also has a downloads page now. I have also improved the top navigation bar as well as the right menus. The right menus now provide direct access to our games and to useful links for developers. It’s way better than before, but I’m not a an expert and your feedback is welcome ;)

      Hi,

There is currently a team work to translate into Spanish. But it’s a lot of work and your help is welcome!

The documentation about how to translate the game is available here:
      http://www.solarus-games.org/doc/latest/translation.html
Basically, it consists in editing several text files, the biggest one
      being the dialogs.

Because several people are contributing at the same time, I have set up a collaborative text edition tool:
http://qikpad.co.uk/p/ZeldaSolarusDXSpanish. Spanish translation instructions are detailed on this page.

Anyway, before starting anything, please come on IRC: server
irc.zelda-solarus.com, channel #linux. It is the best place to make
decisions about translation, ask questions, organize the work and make
sure people are not working on the same parts at the same time.
If you don’t have an IRC client, you can use a web client like
      http://mibbit.com.

      See you on IRC!

I have to say… the fire shard in the mountain – AMAZING!!!

Having to draw a complicated map like that for a Zelda game… was out-of-this-world AMAZING!! That and the need to draw a map and use the cane for a marker in the last dungeon maze…. BRILLIANT! And that little special throwback to Zelda 1… made me leap for joy!!

Christopho, you really are a GENIUS when it comes to designing a game. And you certainly understand what it takes to make the WORLD’S BEST ZELDA GAME!!

I cannot thank you enough. Honestly, thank you for all your passionate dedication to making this game!

Is a sequel or another zelda game done SNES style at all a possibility? Something with a larger map like Zelda 2? Traveling between maps would be incredible!

Lastly, I haven’t found what the bone key is for?

Thanks again from a Zelda fan who has been playing since 1985!

I’ve got to agree, this game is really awesome.

Though.. for complaints, the World Map is very cramped and small. Is there a reason you made it so tiny? And the story is atrocious. Not that I care about the story in a 2D Zelda game, but it is almost painful to read ;) .. you really should work on the World Map, make a 2nd World, the two worlds theme has been present in almost every Zelda game since LttP.

But the dungeons are SUPERB. And the gameplay is flawless. The game is filled with all the LttP nuances that other fan games are lacking.

Extremely highly recommended! Honestly I have been having more fun playing this game than any game I’ve played in years.

      Thanks for your comments.
I totally agree about the too small world map (and its strange shape). And the story is clearly not the main strength of this game ;)
If I make a second game one day, I’ll have to work on these points :)

After several days of playing I’m finally standing in the final dungeon. And it has been an amazing ride so far, a really fun game. Only downside is it seems there is a bug with the block pushing sometimes. The game tends to lag on my PC from time to time, only really short periods, nothing major. The lagging is unpredictable and happens when it wants to, an when I’m in the middle of pushing a block while it lags, the block will not move a full space forward but only a half. Most of the time this is no problem since I have to push the block against a wall anyway, but when I need to change directions with the block and push it near the wall, it’s sometimes impossible to get behind the block again if the game lags. Other than that, you’ve done some really amazing work here. Love the music you used in dungeon 9. Have yet to finds some things since I miss some heartpieces and a bottle, also need to find that door for the bone key.

      Thanks!
As I said in the last article, the bug of blocks making half-moves is fixed in the next release.
